Bath Time

December 14th, 2007

This is our newest edition, Loki. Named after the Norris God of Mischief and living 150% up to that name. The first week we had her she ripped wallpaper off the wall, chewed up my baseboard trim, shredded a curtain so I moved her cage and she shredded another curtain. She is a nightmare and a bundle of love all wrapped into one.

That cute face is just a front, trust me.

See, she’s warmer up, getting ready for her next attack.

Sweet Tooth

December 10th, 2007

For about the past year my husband and I have banned sweets from the house. It’s not a diet, more of a lifestyle that we have adopted. I am a chocolate addict. It was just easier to cut it out completely than to have it around the house. Well everynight after dinner I get a really bad sweet tooth. Usually I am really good about it. Last night I just couldn’t handle it. I knew we didn’t have anything in the house…. so I went online searching. I threw what I had together (which was nothing) and came up with this berry pie. Literally I had one pie crust, 1 bag frozen mixed berries, 2 frozen bags blueberries and 1 bag frozen strawberries. I combined two recipes together and came up with this crumbled top crust. It actually turned out really good. I calculated that each slice was about 250 calories. No butter and only a 1/2 cup sugar for the whole thing. I am a huge calorie counter, it’s worked really good for me, I have lost 28lbs! So anyway this was a nice treat, I never get to do this. So husband and I sat down with some coffee (decaf of course, it was late) and enjoyed a sweet treat.

I have never tried a cumbled top crust like this, I think it turned out really well. With the berries it tasted like a pop tart. It was from one of Emrils recipes. I think it was 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup sald oil, 3 tablespoons milk and 3 tsp sugar. Yeah that sounds right.

Since we couldn’t wait, the pie was still warm so it didn’t hold it’s form very well. Thats ok it was delicious. I wished we would have had some vanilla ice cream, but it was wonderful without it.

Hmm, I think we liked it. Hahah. Can you tell we don’t get dessert very often? hahahah. It was nice to enjoy the a treat with my husband with the christmas trees lit up, snow outside, cozied up by the fire with warm pie and coffee. We really enjoyed it.

Current Project

December 8th, 2007

Here is what I worked on Wedensday. I don’t like how the lining turned out. I think I need to make the lining a little smaller so that it isn’t so bunched up on the inside. Also I think that instead of turning it with a gap in the lining I think I will just hand stitch the tops together elimainating the eyesore on the inside. Ah well it was my test pilot anyway. Hmmm boy if that doesn’t sound confusing hahah. I am going to try and make a couple of these today. I am also working on an apron and a few handbags as well as some organic bath and body wellness creations. I really like them myself and thought other people might too. So what the heck I will put them in my Etsy store too!

Gifts

Do you have a favorite gift that you love to give?

No I don’t have a favorite “gift” that I love to give, I just love giving in general. I always try and find the “perfect” gift for the people I shop for. Most of the time I never know what it is until I see a pattern, or inspiration for something to make or I see the item itself.

Do you have any good stories about handcrafted gifts you’ve given or received?

Last year my sister who is 9 crocheted me a scarf and headband. So I thought this year I would do the same for her. Here is the patchwork scarf that I made for her, it is line with fleece so she can snuggle into it.

Name one thing on your personal wish list.

Hmm just one…oh alright. Hahah. I asked for my shelving wall unit that will go in my sewing room. I have dreamt about it Forever. Whether I will get it or not, we’ll see. And hey it’s a wish list right?

Traditions

What is your favorite family holiday tradition?

My favorite holiday tradition..hmm do I have to choose? I would have to say that there are two. The first one is when my husband and I get bundled up , get hot cocoa and go on the historical lamp lighter tour. It is where we get to walk around to all of the historical homes and tour them. At some of the homes they are dressed up in costumes from that era. They even have a live orchesta (well not a full one) playing. It is really a fun time.

My 2nd would be the Christmas walk. We go out to dinner in our historic downtown, then we get bundled up and walk to all of the boutiques. They have horse drawn carriage rides, santa clause, all the boutiques are decorated so beautifully, and I am with the person I love the most in this whole world.

Have you started any new traditions with your family that you didn’t practice growing up?

Yes. Every year, the day before Thanksgiving my husband I have our own candlelit Thanksgiving dinner. Just the two of us. Very romantic. We have done this every year since we have been together, it’s just our “thing”

On Christmas, my husband wakes up before me and puts on the coffee. Then he wakes me up. We sit by our fireplace and play with our dogs (they are our kids). Then we let them open their gifts. Then we open ours. When we are done, we make breakfast together and enjoy the day before we go visit family.

What do you love most about the holiday season?

What I love the most is the the air. It seems to be charged with magic during the holiday season. It feels electric and it is so contagious. I just love it.

What do you like least about the holiday season?

The driving, I hate driving in the snow. It scares me. I also hate seeing people who are so in need, it breaks my heart to know that there are people out there who don’t have a family or someone to spend the holidays with. I wish I could have them all over to my house.

Anyone close to your heart that you’ll be missing this year?

Yes, my father-in-law was taken from us 2 years ago. He was only 48.

What is your favorite holiday food?

Pumpkin Pie!

Oh , thanks that was fun!

 Happy Holidays!!!

My First Item in Etsy!

December 5th, 2007

I just put my very first item in My Etsy Shop . I just finsihed this cute handbag yesterday. It has a baby blue satin lining that I think looks really nice with the swirls on the front. It turn out a little bigger than I thought, but I just love it. I am not very happy with how my photos turn out, especially how they look on Etsy. Hmm well I suppose better luck next time!

Happier Post

December 4th, 2007

I was feeling like my two previous posts were making me sound like a negative Nancy, so I took them out. I have to say that I should not have complained about my “fill in” sewing machine. It is manual, which I thought would be a pain, but I think it is growing on me. It has been doing a great job, I think I just needed a little adjustment period and no I don’t mean with my attitude ;). I am so sorry that I don’t have any photos up yet, it has been kind of gloomy here, hence the time of year. So I am I having a little problem getting enough natural light to take some great pics. I will try and get some done this week, I have been working on some very cute projects. Today I finished a really cute bag with a satin lining. It will be going up in my Etsy shop as soon as I get those photos. I also started my very first apron, so we’ll see how that goes!

I am sooo happy to say that I  just opened my own Etsy Shop! wooo hooo! I have wanted to for some time now, but I was a little worried, don’t ask me why. I don’t have anything in it yet, I am still setting it all up but hey atleast it is a step, right? I am so excited to make things for my shop. I have so much wonderful inspiration from so many excellent blogs! I just love each and every one them!
